Because Maundy Thursday is a public holiday, Easter alone is a five-day weekend before you spend anything — and a ten-day break costs surprisingly little. May 17 (Constitution Day) shifts weekday every year and decides how good the May chain gets.

Maundy Thursday and Good Friday plus the weekend and Easter Monday give every Norwegian a built-in five-day break. Add the three workdays before or after and it becomes ten.

Constitution Day is fixed to May 17, so its weekday changes every year. A Tuesday or Thursday May 17 creates a classic one-day bridge; a weekend May 17 is simply lost — Norway has no substitute-day rule.
