Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

Ghost Tape ("the game") is developed by MrNick Apps. This policy explains what data the game handles, where it lives, and what you can do about it. The short version: the game is local-first. Your progress stays on your phone unless you choose to post a score.

1. Data the game handles

  • Progress — which houses you have unlocked, best times, top lists, achievements, streak and play statistics. Stored on your device only.
  • Settings — sound, vibration, left-handed layout, difficulty, and a nickname you choose. Stored on your device only.
  • Nickname and scores — only if you post to the online records board. The nickname is whatever you type; it does not need to be your name. Scores are sent together with an anonymous, randomly generated identifier so your own entries can be shown to you.
  • Purchase state — whether you own an optional in-app purchase, handled by Google Play and cached on your device.

The game does not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, location, or device identifiers, and contains no analytics or advertising SDKs.

2. Online records

Posting a score is optional. When you do, the nickname, the score, the mode and house it was set in, and the anonymous identifier are stored on Google Firebase (Firestore), operated by Google. Scores on the shared board are visible to other players under the nickname you chose. Nothing else from your device is sent. You can change your nickname at any time in Settings; new posts use the new name.

3. Co-op

Two-player games run directly between the two phones over your local wifi. No game data passes through any server, and no account is involved. The host phone broadcasts a game name on the local network so the other phone can find it; that name is the host's nickname.

4. Purchases

In-app purchases are processed by Google Play. We never see your payment details. Google's own privacy policy applies to the transaction.

5. Permissions

  • Internet — for the optional online records and for co-op over local wifi.
  • Vibration — for the scares. Can be switched off in Settings.

6. Children

Ghost Tape is a horror game with jump scares and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

7. Deleting your data

Everything on the device is removed when you uninstall the game. To have your online records entries removed, email us with the nickname you posted under and we will delete them.

8. Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with an updated date at the top.
